Set amidst a stunning landscape in Southern China, this debut feature is the first film to be shot in the Dong language. The story evolves over four seasons, told through the diary entries of 12 year old A Qui. Her parents are migrant workers in the city, but are forced to return and work on the family rice paddy following the death of her grandmother. A Qui aspires to be a writer and travel the world, yet her best friend dreams of becoming the next 'Miss Dong'. While the film celebrates the traditions of the Dong community, it equally offers a telling comment on contemporary youth in an increasingly modern and changing China.
